Choosing which journalism courses to apply for can be daunting and confusing. How do you know which ones will give you the skills you need in such a rapidly-changing industry? Will the course you choose have the equipment and facilities that match those in the real world? How can you ensure the course you invest in lives up to its promise?

The BJTC helps make that choice a little easier. We partner with all the big media employers – like the BBC, Sky News, ITV and Global radio – to make sure you’re learning the exact skills they are looking for.

All BJTC accredited courses must meet strict guidelines and are regularly inspected to make sure they provide you with the highest professional standards of broadcast journalism training in the UK.

These are some of the things we keep an eye out for:

  • Broadcast appropriate voice training
  • Regular full-length news production days which make sure you are ready for life in an online or broadcast newsroom
  • Media law, regulation and court reporting – so you can be confident you know the rules
  • Industry standard technology and facilities
  • A curriculum which covers the knowledge and skills that industry is asking for
  • Feedback from lecturers that is fair, and prepares you for a future in the industry
  • A placement programme and good industry contacts

If you graduate from a BJTC accredited course you will receive a Journalism Skills Certificate. This lets future employers know you have received industry-standard training and have learned the core skills they require.

And it doesn’t end there.

Students from BJTC accredited courses are eligible to take part in our annual awards, with the chance to win a cash prize, and we have a number of placement opportunities open to BJTC students.

Then after you graduate… you will be a part of the BJTC alumni, a community that can support you during those first steps into your working life and for many years beyond. We would love to welcome you to the BJTC family.
