The BJTC does not set a single core syllabus, nor do we set exams. We do not accredit universities, colleges or even specific schools within those institutions or individual students. Just courses.
We challenge providers to construct an offering, which reflects core BJTC values as set out in our Accreditation Requirements, but also encourage them to develop distinctive features of their own. These are incorporated in the course’s Promise of Performance, against which it will be judged during the accreditation process.
We have found that this approach has been highly effective in ensuring a diverse range of courses across the UK – but it does make it all the more important that potential students carefully interrogate each course website and its associated literature to ensure that the course meets their specific interests and skills.
The BJTC willingly offers advice and guidance to any higher or further education institution seeking accreditation; from conception and planning to delivery. If you are a course leader or academic who is considering BJTC accreditation, please contact usso we can discuss your requirements and suggest the next step.
The Advisory Process
Being ‘in Advisory’ with the BJTC means we work with you, one-to-one, to guide you and your course through accreditation. It’s a consultative process in which together, we identify what steps you may need to take, what facilities you need and what staffing is required to meet our requirements.
This is an opportunity to ensure you have everything in place before a BJTC panel comes to visit.
Whether you are creating a new course or adapting an existing one, we bring our extensive knowledge to the table to make sure your course offers the training future employers are looking for. Whether its face-to-face, on the phone or via email, we pride ourselves on making ourselves available to you as you begin the journey of BJTC accreditation.
After Advisory – the five steps of the accreditation process
- Document review
- Panel visit
- Board review
- Accreditation awarded
- Verification meeting
The accreditation process maps the content of your course alongside the BJTC requirements.
We accredit to a single standard, but there are two levels of accreditation – Full and Pending. There is just one specific difference between each level. All accredited courses meet our accreditation standards, but a fully accredited course is one which has delivered a cohort into the labour market, while a course with the Pending appellation is one – usually undergraduate – where the course has yet to complete its full three or four year duration. All Pending courses are inspected every year to gauge their progress and will have to meet our standards and expectations fully at each visit.
